FRANKSTON WOMEN’S CRICKET CLUB

Date started

Brief History

Frankston Women’s Cricket Club was founded in 1977/78, with two teams competing in the MPWCA (Mornington Peninsula Women’s Cricket Association).  In 1980/81 a C Grade team was entered into the VWCA; then after the MPWCA folded both teams played in the VWCA.  Frankston Women’s Cricket Club has competed in all Grades of the VWCA at some stage during the history of the Club, including Pennant Grade (now known as District Firsts).  When the Club first started there was no Home Ground or Clubrooms; several Primary School ovals were used, including Fairway Primary, Karingal High and then Belvedere Primary.  After many meetings with the local Council we were finally given our own Home Ground and Clubrooms at our current location at Belvedere Reserve in Seaford.  In Season 2004/05 we fielded a District Seconds and B Grade team, however at one stage we had four teams!  A number of players who started their cricket careers at FWCC have gone on to represent both Victoria and Australia.
